Join New York Adventure Club as we uncover the stories of France’s most groundbreaking female artists between the 18th and early 20th centuries — women who not only mastered their craft, but also challenged the very structures that tried to hold them back.

Led by Edith de Belleville — French licensed tour guide, author, and attorney-at-law — this virtual exploration will include:

• A look at Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun, official portraitist to Marie-Antoinette who gained international fame and continued her career in exile during the French Revolution
• An exploration of Adélaïde Labille-Guiard, one of the first women admitted to the Royal Academy and a fierce advocate for women artists’ rights
• The story of Berthe Morisot, the only woman in the original Impressionist group who redefined femininity and domestic life through her art
• A profile of Camille Claudel, the passionate sculptor who collaborated with Rodin, but faced immense personal and professional struggles
• An introduction to Suzanne Valadon, a bold, self-taught painter who rose from artist’s model to trailblazing painter of working-class life and defiant nudes

About Edith

Edith de Belleville is a native Parisian woman. She is a licensed tour guide, lawyer, author and a qualified French teacher for foreigners. She wrote a book about Beautiful Rebels of Paris in French ("Belles et Rebelles" , Éditions du 81) She is also a professor and teaches the Jewish heritage in Paris at Gustave Eiffel University (Marne-la-Vallée) She just published a new book in English about her memoirs in Paris "Parisian Life, adventures in the City of Light." And she spends so much time at Le Louvre and Orsay Museum that it's her second home.
